A 32-year-old woman was struck and killed by an LAPD patrol car in Valley Glen late on Oct. 31.
The officer was heading to an emergency backup call at a Halloween house party when the cruiser hit the pedestrian on Woodman Avenue between Bessemer and Erwin streets, ABC7 reported. The woman died at the scene.
The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) confirmed to KTLA that the collision happened around 11:30 p.m. near Woodman Avenue and Bessemer Street. The unit had its lights and sirens activated, and the woman was outside a marked crosswalk when she was struck, an LAPD spokesperson said, according to KTLA.
The trouble began about an hour earlier. Police received a "shots fired" call just after 10:30 p.m. at a Halloween house party on Weddington Street in Sherman Oaks, ABC7 reported. Officers found an estimated 300 people at the gathering. The officer who struck the pedestrian was responding to a backup request from that scene.
The party was eventually cleared. No injuries were reported there, and it remained unclear whether a gun was found, according to ABC7.
The victim's name has not been released. The LAPD identified her only as a 32-year-old woman, according to KTLA. Neither the officer's identity nor additional details about the investigation have been released.
A resident who lives near the crash scene and heard the impact described the aftermath to ABC7: "I see one cop car in the middle of the street, sideways, then I see a cop a couple feet from the curb looking into the street."
