A tractor-trailer struck and killed a 47-year-old woman in San Pedro early Wednesday, Oct. 21, then fled the scene without stopping.

The Los Angeles Police Department is asking the public to help identify the driver. A reward of up to $50,000 is available through the city's Hit-and-Run Reward Program Trust Fund for information leading to the driver's identification, arrest and conviction.

The collision happened around 1:30 a.m. at the intersection of Channel Street and Gaffey Street, according to an LAPD press release. The tractor-trailer had stopped at a red light at the intersection. As it began turning left to travel southbound on Gaffey Street, the rear right tires struck the pedestrian and fatally injured her.

The driver kept going without stopping to render aid or identify themselves, as required by law.

Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded and pronounced the woman dead at the scene. Her name has not been released. LAPD identified her only as a 47-year-old woman.

KTLA reported that police said the vehicle was believed to be towing a white trailer. The intersection sits near the 110 Freeway, according to KTLA's coverage. LAPD Officer Lopez confirmed the crash to KTLA but the department has not released a description of the driver or the tractor-trailer's cab, including its make, color or markings.

No suspect description has been made public.
