Downtown Los Angeles could get its first electric air taxi landing pad at LA Live, with Archer Aviation and AEG targeting the site to be operational in time for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The two companies announced Monday, Aug. 24, that they will collaborate on a vertiport at AEG's 4-million-square-foot sports and entertainment district adjacent to Crypto.com Arena and the Los Angeles Convention Center. The deal, brokered by AEG Global Partnerships, makes Archer the exclusive air taxi partner of LA Live under a multi-year agreement.

Archer unveiled its Midnight aircraft in a new "Team USA" Olympic livery at the site Monday morning. The four-passenger, all-electric vehicle has a 100-mile range and is built for short urban hops.

It was brought to LA Live by truck. The Federal Aviation Administration has not yet approved it for commercial flight.

"You look at these 90-minute, sometimes 2-hour rides to get to downtown Los Angeles. These will be 10-to-15-minute flights," Miles Rogers, Archer's chief marketing officer, told ABC7. He said the company aims to bring pricing to "Uber Black" levels as the fleet grows, though no launch fares have been announced.

Archer founder and CEO Adam Goldstein called it "a one-of-a-kind opportunity to add a flagship downtown location to our planned Los Angeles air taxi network ahead of the LA28 Games." Archer is the official air taxi provider of the LA28 Olympic and Paralympic Games and Team USA.

The companies said they have already completed an initial feasibility study covering land-use and airspace reviews, power availability and community impact. A second phase reviewing operational logistics and guest experience is underway.

The LA Live site would join a growing list of planned Archer vertiport locations across the region, including SoFi Stadium, USC and Hollywood Burbank Airport. Archer's recently acquired Hawthorne Airport is slated to serve as the network's central operational hub.

Charging infrastructure at the site would use BETA Technologies' electric aviation chargers as part of the ACES consortium, which aims to install standardized charging at 250 aviation sites nationwide by 2030.

Nick Baker, president and chief operating officer of AEG Global Partnerships, said the collaboration brings together infrastructure and technology to serve fans and visitors attending events at LA Live.

No construction timeline, groundbreaking date or permit filings have been disclosed.
