Chefs from Michelin-recognized restaurants in Tijuana and Valle de Guadalupe will cook alongside some of LA's best taqueros at Taqueando After Dark, a two-night festival taking over Level 8 inside the Moxy Hotel on Thursday, Aug. 27 and Friday, Aug. 28.

James Beard Award-winning food writer Bill Esparza curated the lineup, pairing cross-border talent across eight rooms on the venue's eighth floor at 1254 S. Figueroa St. Doors open at 6 p.m. both nights.

Thursday's headliner is Ruffo Ibarra, chef behind Oryx in Tijuana, which has held a spot in the Michelin Guide for three consecutive years. Friday brings Tomás Gastélum and José Luis Hinostroza of Mira Fireside in Valle de Guadalupe, also Michelin-recognized.

On the LA side, the roster includes Ray Garcia of Qué Bárbaro in DTLA, Eloy Aluri of Tacos Royale in Silver Lake, taqueros from Tijuanazo in East LA and Tacos La Carreta in Whittier and Long Beach, and Francisco Leal of Mariscos Chiltepín in Vernon.

"We have a big Sinaloense culture, a big culture from Mazatlán," Esparza told LAist in an Aug. 20 preview. "And Tijuana tacos have been viral for the last decade. It's everywhere: birria, carne asada, adobada."

The Houston Brothers hospitality group and Garcia are co-presenting the event with Esparza. The format is roaming: attendees move room to room, sampling each chef's regional specialties.

Tickets run $40 to $135 per night. General admission covers five to six bites. Add-ons include early chef access, an all-you-can-drink package and a $35 guided tequila tasting. Tickets are available through Eventbrite via the Level 8 event page.

Level 8 sits across from Crypto.com Arena and the LA Convention Center.
