The Dodgers wasted Blake Snell's 10-strikeout outing Saturday, Aug. 29, falling 2-1 to the Detroit Tigers on a walk-off single at Comerica Park.

Kevin McGonigle singled to left off reliever Jack Dreyer in the bottom of the ninth with the bases loaded, scoring Javier Báez and handing L.A. its fourth loss in their last five one-run games, the Los Angeles Times reported. McGonigle's hit snapped an 0-for-16 slump, according to MLB.com's game story.

The loss dropped the Dodgers to 81-55.

Snell, making his fourth start since returning from arthroscopic elbow surgery in May, allowed one run on three hits with three walks across five innings. He has held opponents to one run or fewer in every start since his Aug. 11 activation.

A blister on his left big toe nearly derailed the outing. In the third inning, Snell left the field and disappeared into the dugout tunnel after the bandage covering the blister slid under his foot.

"Anytime I was pushing, I was slipping … I had no clue where the ball was going," Snell said.

He got permission from home plate umpire Chris Guccione to remove the bandage. When he returned, Snell struck out five straight batters.

Detroit scored first in the third. Báez walked, Max Clark reached on a Max Muncy throwing error on a sacrifice bunt, and Gleyber Torres hit a ground-rule double to right that scored Báez.

The Dodgers tied it in the sixth. Alek Thomas doubled off the left-field wall, moved to third on a Shohei Ohtani groundout and scored on Freddie Freeman's single to right.

Then came the missed chance. L.A. loaded the bases with one out in the sixth, but Tommy Edman grounded into a double play.

It was the Dodgers' third bases-loaded double play of August. They entered Saturday batting .211 with the bases loaded in August, placing them in the bottom third of the majors.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said the pattern is taking "a toll" on his pitching staff, who feel they cannot give up a single run without losing. He said the offense is aware of the problem but acknowledged the awareness has not translated into production.

In the ninth, former Dodger Kenley Jansen entered to face Teoscar Hernández, who hit a deep fly to left-center with two outs and a runner on first. Báez tracked it down over his shoulder a few steps from the wall, ending the Dodgers' last threat.

Reliever Edgardo Henriquez delivered a bright spot in the eighth, striking out Dillon Dingler with a career-high-tying 103.6 mph sinker.

Tigers starter Keider Montero kept the Dodgers quiet through five innings, getting first-pitch strikes on 15 of his first 17 batters.

Roberts also told reporters after the game that Ohtani is still dealing with knee and biceps issues and will not pitch Sunday, according to Spectrum News. Tyler Glasnow will start the series finale Sunday, Aug. 30, at 10:40 a.m. PT against Detroit's Framber Valdez.
