Someone scratched over Dolly Parton's name on her Hollywood Walk of Fame star days after the country icon's death turned the sidewalk at 6710 Hollywood Blvd. into a sprawling fan memorial.

The Hollywood Historic Trust and Hollywood Chamber of Commerce moved quickly. Crews began replacing the star Tuesday, Sept. 1, and the new one will be polished and ready for viewing Friday, Sept. 4, Ana Martinez, a spokesperson for the Chamber, told Page Six.

Martinez said the star had already been on a repair list because of cracks and weather damage. Workers cleared the memorial items, including flowers, candles, photos, pink sunglasses and a box of Dolly Parton-branded cornbread mix, to begin scheduled work. That's when someone vandalized it, she said.

Lore Corona, a fan who arrived with her daughters to leave flowers, posted a video showing deep scratches gouged across Parton's name. "Somebody decided to do this about 10 minutes before we got here," Corona said in the video. "It just doesn't make any sense."

A custodian at the scene told Corona a woman had kicked around memorial candles and used shards from one to scratch the star, according to Corona's post, as Spectrum News reported.

Parton died Aug. 25 at age 80 after a brief battle with cancer. Fans immediately began gathering at her star, leaving tributes that grew into a large sidewalk memorial.

The damaged star was Parton's original, unveiled June 14, 1984, according to Billboard, in a dual ceremony with Sylvester Stallone while the two promoted their film Rhinestone. It bears a record icon. Parton received a second star in 2018 alongside Emmylou Harris and Linda Ronstadt for their work as the supergroup Trio.

Vandalizing a Walk of Fame star can result in felony charges under California's penal code, punishable by up to three years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000. The Walk of Fame is a registered state historic landmark. No law enforcement statement on whether an investigation has been opened was available as of Wednesday, Sept. 2.

The replacement star will be at 6710 Hollywood Blvd. for fans starting Friday.
