Los Angeles proclaimed Sept. 1–8 "BTS Week" and lit City Hall red as the K-pop group opens four sold-out concerts at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood.
Mayor Karen Bass, City Council members, tourism officials and BigHit Music representatives gathered at City Hall on Monday, Aug. 31, for the proclamation ceremony. The red glow on the building matches the signature color of BTS's fifth studio album, "ARIRANG."
"We are proud to honor the incredible achievements of BTS, who have made profound contributions to global culture, and to celebrate their special bond with Los Angeles with people around the world," Bass said at the ceremony, according to SBS News.
The City Council passed a resolution calling BTS "one of the most influential artists of its generation" since the group's 2013 debut, crediting the seven-member act with opening doors for Korean and other Asian artists worldwide, the Korea Times reported. The resolution also cited BTS's "LOVE MYSELF" campaign with UNICEF and their speeches at the United Nations, the Korea Daily reported.
City Councilmember John Lee said the declaration honors "the special footprints BTS has left on global culture" and celebrates ties between Los Angeles, Korea and the local Korean American community.
The four SoFi Stadium dates, Sept. 1, 2, 5 and 6, serve as the grand finale for the North American leg of the "BTS World Tour ARIRANG." The shows mark BTS's first LA appearance in more than four years, following their "Permission to Dance on Stage" concerts at SoFi in December 2021.
The tour has shattered records. BTS's "ARIRANG" tour had drawn roughly 2.3 million ticket holders across 38 shows and generated $433.2 million in revenue as of Aug. 11, according to Billboard Boxscore data reported by OtakuKart. That total surpasses BLACKPINK's "Born Pink" tour at $331.8 million as the highest-grossing tour by a Korean act.
LA is not alone in honoring the group. El Paso County in Texas, the state of Illinois and Toronto each designated a "BTS Week" or "BTS Day" at earlier stops on the tour.
Don Yu, director of the Los Angeles Tourism & Convention Board, said the performances will "reaffirm the long-standing relationship between LA and BTS" and that the bureau expects visiting fans to explore the city's tourism offerings during the week.
The full "ARIRANG" world tour spans 85 dates in 34 cities across 23 countries, running from April 2026 through March 2027.
