Adva Lavie, the former OnlyFans model accused of using dating apps to burglarize wealthy men across Los Angeles, is mentally competent to stand trial, a judge ruled Friday, Oct. 9.
Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Maria Cavalluzzi issued the finding after reviewing an evaluation by psychiatrist Dr. Phani Tumu, who determined Lavie is "presently competent," the Los Angeles Times reported. Lavie, 29, was not in the courtroom for the ruling.
The decision ends more than a month of delays. Defense attorney Jeremy Lessem had raised doubts about Lavie's mental state in late August, prompting the court to suspend all proceedings. After the Oct. 9 hearing, Lessem acknowledged the competency finding and said his client's symptoms had improved over the past month, according to the Palisades News.
Criminal proceedings are set to resume Monday, Oct. 12, at the Van Nuys courthouse.
Six felony charges
Lavie, who also goes by Mia Ventura, Shoshana and Shana, faces six felony charges, including two counts of grand theft and two counts of first-degree residential burglary. She pleaded not guilty earlier this year and was ordered to stand trial after a preliminary hearing in March.
Prosecutors allege Lavie met wealthy older men and younger women through dating apps and social connections, then posed as a girlfriend or travel companion to gain access to their homes, KTLA reported. The alleged thefts of cash, jewelry and designer goods spanned locations in Westlake Village, West Hollywood, Beverly Hills and Los Angeles between 2023 and 2025.
If convicted on all counts, Lavie faces up to 11 years and eight months in state prison, prosecutors said.
Alleged scheme details
In one case, prosecutors allege Lavie stole $17,500 in cash, $100,000 in designer clothes and $4,000 in gold coins from a 78-year-old man she was dating at his Van Nuys home. Detectives say she later posted an "apartment tour" on TikTok that showed the stolen clothing in her closet, ABC7 reported.
Prosecutors also allege Lavie told the same man her mother had died and asked for $25,000 to cover funeral expenses. Investigators say her mother was later found to be alive.
A separate investigation, referenced in a search warrant obtained by the Los Angeles Times, examined allegations that Lavie drugged her former fiancé, billionaire Stephen Cloobeck, with ketamine.
Turbulent path to trial
Lavie has been in Los Angeles County Jail since late July, when Beverly Hills police arrested her at the restaurant Azur after she allegedly removed her court-ordered ankle monitor. The arrest stemmed from a warrant issued by the Indio Police Department over a separate alleged theft at an Airbnb near the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival the prior year.
A judge had already denied Lavie's request for mental health diversion in August. Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Diego H. Edber questioned her truthfulness at that hearing, saying defense reports claiming victims provided large amounts of drugs and alcohol were "just not true."
At the late-August hearing where Lessem declared doubt about her competency, Lavie appeared in a blue jail jumpsuit, cried, limped and yelled in the courtroom. A bailiff at one point pushed her into the room on a rolling chair.
"Even while incarcerated, she cannot refrain from scheming," Deputy District Attorney Lisa Friedman told a judge at the August diversion hearing, citing a new pending investigation with additional potential victims.
The L.A. County Sheriff's Department has released a bulletin calling for other possible victims to come forward.
