Marco Reus converted a first-half penalty, but Paul Arriola's late equalizer gave the Seattle Sounders a 1-1 draw against the LA Galaxy at Dignity Health Sports Park on Saturday, Sept. 12.

The result leaves the Galaxy stuck at 10th in the Western Conference with 30 points from 26 games, according to ESPN standings. San Diego FC sits ninth with the same 30 points but two games in hand. Real Salt Lake and Minnesota United trail by a single point with fewer games played.

"We're all fully aware of the situation … we know that we've played one or two more games than all the other teams. So, we're not looking past that," Galaxy defender Justin Haak said after the match.

Reus broke the deadlock in the 44th minute from the penalty spot after Hirving "Chucky" Lozano was fouled in the box by Seattle midfielder Paul Rothrock. It was Reus' team-high sixth league goal this season and his second consecutive home match with a score, according to the Galaxy's match report.

The Galaxy controlled the first half but couldn't add insurance. Vanney sensed the danger. The head coach said he was concerned the team hadn't done enough to extend the lead, knowing the Galaxy's tendency to concede late.

Seattle found that opening in the 81st minute. Arriola, on the pitch less than two minutes after entering as a substitute, tapped in a cross from Jordan Morris to level the score. A Morris goal in the 61st minute had been disallowed for offside, according to the Sounders' match recap.

The draw extended Seattle's winless streak to 12 matches, a club record. The Sounders haven't won since beating San Jose 3-2 on May 13.

The match also marked the return of former Galaxy forward Dejan Jovelić to Dignity Health Sports Park. Jovelić scored 34 goals in three and a half years with LA and helped win the 2024 MLS Cup. He suited up for Seattle on Saturday.

Defender Lucas Calegari made his 2026 Galaxy debut at right back. Forward João Klauss entered as a substitute in the 67th minute for his first action since suffering a foot injury April 18. The Galaxy acquired an international roster slot from Minnesota United, paying $150,000 in allocation money and a 2027 draft pick to activate Klauss.

Galaxy goalkeeper JT Marcinkowski made five saves. Seattle's Andrew Thomas stopped three.

The Galaxy, who had won just twice in their previous 10 games entering Saturday according to the Los Angeles Times, travel to Minnesota United on Saturday, Sept. 19, at Allianz Field (5:30 p.m. PT, Apple TV).
