Trent McDuffie cost the Los Angeles Rams four draft picks and $100 million in guaranteed money. The 26-year-old cornerback has already been voted team captain by his new teammates.

McDuffie and the Rams (1-1) face the Denver Broncos (1-1) at Empower Field at Mile High on Sunday, Sept. 27, for Sunday Night Football. Kickoff is 5:20 p.m. Pacific time on NBC, according to the Rams' website.

The two-time Super Bowl champion arrived in a March trade from the Kansas City Chiefs, who received the 29th overall pick and three additional selections. The Rams then locked him into a long-term extension, as the Los Angeles Times reported. McDuffie earned the captain's vote during offseason workouts and training camp.

His best performance so far came Monday, Sept. 21, against the New York Giants. McDuffie intercepted a pass and broke up three others in a 28-6 win that held New York to two field goals. After that game, McVay called McDuffie "a stud" who stays calm when the ball is in the air.

"When the ball's in the air, don't panic — just become the receiver," McDuffie said. "Get back to the basics. You know how to play football. You know how to catch the ball. Just go make a play."

That composure traces to a hard lesson. In Super Bowl LVII in 2023, McDuffie failed to make a play on a touchdown catch by Philadelphia's AJ Brown. He earned All-Pro honors the following season, forcing five fumbles and recording three sacks without a single interception.

McDuffie grew up in Southern California, attending Mater Dei, Servite and St. John Bosco before playing at the University of Washington. He faced the Broncos six times as a Chief and has never intercepted a Denver pass.

Across the field, Broncos quarterback Bo Nix has thrown for 419 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions through two games, according to Fubo. Denver rallied from a 13-3 third-quarter deficit to beat Jacksonville 20-13 in Week 2, per ESPN. Nix told the Broncos' website the game is "the next-biggest one" on Denver's schedule and called Aaron Donald "literally one of the best at his position of all time."

The Rams enter with strong early-season numbers. Quarterback Matthew Stafford has 482 passing yards and four touchdowns. Wide receiver Davante Adams has 11 catches for 221 yards and two scores. Receiver Puka Nacua is listed as doubtful with a hip injury.

It is the first meeting between the teams since Christmas Day 2022, when the Rams won 51-14 at SoFi Stadium.

The Rams visit the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, Oct. 4. Denver heads to San Francisco the same day.
